Vietnam Government Euthanizes A Woman
Woman was sentenced to death for her role in orchestrating a scheme that resulted in massive financial losses for a major bank and numerous investors. Truong My Lan, a prominent Vietnamese real estate tycoon and chairwoman of the Van Thinh Phat Group, was involved in one of the largest financial fraud cases recorded in Vietnam’s history. The company she worked for was The Van Thinh Phat Group they developed luxury residential buildings, hotels, offices, and shopping malls, including notable properties like Times Square Saigon and Windsor Plaza Hotel. Lan was accused of paying bribes to government officials to facilitate her fraudulent activities. A former central bank official received a life sentence for accepting $5.2 million in bribes related to this case. In April 2024, Lan was sentenced to death by lethal injection after being convicted on multiple charges including embezzlement and violating banking regulations. Her husband also received a prison sentence for his involvement.
